Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will become the new captain of the Georgian national team


Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, a midfielder, has been appointed as the new captain of the Georgian national football team. The vice-captain of the team will be Otar Kiteishvili, who represents the Austrian club "Sturm." Guram Kashia, the current captain and the record holder for the most matches played for the national team, announced his retirement from the national team on June 2 after a friendly match against Romania.

Currently, Kvaratskhelia, who is only 25 years old, has played 47 matches for the national team, scoring 20 goals. He also showed excellent results at the UEFA Euro 2024. His club career includes stints with Russian teams "Rubin" and "Lokomotiv," with whom he won the Russian Cup in the 2018/19 season. Additionally, he became the champion of Italy with "Napoli" and collected an impressive array of trophies with "Paris Saint-Germain," including the league title, the cup, and the French Super Cup, as well as the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Intercontinental Cup.
