Japan is intensifying its diplomatic efforts in the region
The 'C5+1' summit involving five Central Asian countries is scheduled for December 19-20 in Tokyo.
During the event, Prime Minister Sanae Takahichi will hold bilateral talks with the heads of state from the region.
Taro Aso, vice president of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, emphasized the need to enhance Japan's diplomatic activity in light of recent meetings between Central Asia and Russia, China, and the United States.
"From a diplomatic perspective, it is extremely important for Japan to also successfully organize such summits," Aso noted.
It should be noted that a summit was planned in Kazakhstan in August 2024 to mark the 20th anniversary of dialogue between Japan and Central Asia; however, the visit was canceled at the last moment due to a warning of a possible strong earthquake in Japan.
The upcoming summit this year was announced at the end of November. Prime Minister Sanae Takahichi hopes that this event will strengthen ties with resource-rich countries and enhance economic security, as well as develop cooperation in various fields.
