Since September of this year, the artistic organization Laboratory SI has been conducting an elective course on the history of art in Soviet Kyrgyzstan. As part of this project, we offered participants the opportunity to immerse themselves in the study of art not only in a global context but also to consider the political and historical situations of the region. This is an attempt to analyze how, in complex, these processes became part of artistic reflection from 1917 to 1990.

The pop-up exhibition was formed from the working materials of the program — recordings, timelines covering the history of nearly a century, as well as reflections on the material covered.

The specificity of the texts and their political charge, as well as the language of that time, influenced the perception of the material and its interpretation today. Through reading seminars, discussions, and lectures, we also developed a common language and understanding of the processes that took place over more than 70 years.

It was interesting to observe the stages of the formation and functioning of the Union of Artists, the process of cultural policy led by the Union, as well as the exchange of experiences among artists in the USSR.
