According to a report by the Eurasian Development Bank published in October 2025, significant trade costs are observed at the borders of Central Asia and the Caucasus due to the slow processing of cargo.

The study indicates that the average time required for freight transport to cross the border is 13.6 hours, and the cost of export documents reaches hundreds of dollars, which is significantly higher than in developed countries.

Many states in this region continue to rank low in indices related to logistics efficiency and ease of doing business.

Analysts warn that if the countries of the Eurasian region do not take steps to simplify and unify cross-border procedures, it may hinder the achievement of trade and transit growth potential. As a result, part of the cargo flow may not be realized due to existing bottlenecks at the borders.

According to forecasts by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, if border crossings in Central Asia are expedited and modern customs control methods are implemented, the volume of road transport could increase by 11% by 2050.
