In Kyrgyzstan, a pilot implementation of the pasture management concept is set to begin, focusing on the Naryn region. This was reported by the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the country.

The project will be implemented by the Veterinary Service for Livestock Development, Pastures, and Forage under the Ministry of Agriculture. The information was announced by the deputy director of the service, Ishenbek Almambetov, at a seminar dedicated to the topic of "Improving the Condition of Pastures and Their Rational Use."

Pasture lands are a key resource for agriculture in Kyrgyzstan, especially in the livestock sector. In the Naryn region, which has the largest pastures in the country, there has been a threat of degradation of these lands in recent years, caused by harsh climatic conditions, mountainous terrain, and increased pressure on pastures. In this regard, the new initiative aims for the sustainable and efficient use of pasture resources.

The main objective of the concept is to ensure the sustainable use of pastures in the Naryn region, reduce degradation processes, restore pasture resources, and increase livestock productivity, which in turn should contribute to improving the socio-economic situation of the local population.

The concept is based on the principles of sustainable development, community-oriented management, transparency, scientific justification, and digitalization.

As part of the concept, it is proposed to direct 100% of the revenues from pasture fees exclusively to the development of the pasture sector, as well as to establish a specialized legal entity — the State Pasture Enterprise (or a special pasture fund). This will ensure financial independence, targeted use of funds, transparency, and sustainability of management.

The seminar was attended by specialists from seven regions of Kyrgyzstan interested in pasture management issues. The results of the discussions showed support for the proposed initiatives as a pilot project.
