At the meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on agrarian policy, ecology, and environmental protection, held on February 2, the deputies discussed the problem of air pollution in Bishkek and measures aimed at reducing the level of smog.

Deputy Bakyt Tentishev asked what sources of air pollution in the capital are currently the most significant.

The mayor of the capital, Aibek Junushaliev, noted that residential areas where coal heating is actively used pose the greatest danger to the ecology. He added that the problem lies not only in the quality of coal but also in the burning of various waste, including textiles and household garbage.

According to him, this explains the number of protocols drawn up by municipal inspectors: most violations are related to the illegal burning of waste in stoves.

Although the CHPP is also a source of emissions, the mayor stated that its contribution to pollution is lower than that of road transport and residential areas.

In light of this situation, the authorities are focusing on gasification, as the transition to gas heating will make it impossible to burn waste in stoves. Additionally, as the mayor noted, the city is developing alternative sources of heat, such as heat pumps and solar panels, which will provide the population with more choices and reduce the volume of emissions into the atmosphere.
