At the meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on Agricultural Policy, Water Resources, Subsoil Use, Ecology, and Environmental Protection on February 2, deputies also discussed the contribution of the Bishkek CHPP to air pollution.

Mayor of the capital, Aibek Junushaliev, responded to a question from deputy Bakyt Tentishev, noting that although the CHPP is a source of emissions, its contribution to pollution is less significant compared to road transport and residential areas.

During the autumn-winter period, flue gas desulfurization units were implemented on the new energy blocks of the CHPP, which significantly reduced emissions; now only steam comes out of the pipes. The old blocks continue to use electrostatic precipitators, which are also being modernized.

The mayor added that the approach to ash disposal at the CHPP has changed: previously, state funds were spent on its removal and cleaning, but now the ash is sold to investors at a price of 2900 soms per ton. Investors have installed equipment worth about 1.5 million dollars to extract the ash directly from the pipes, which also helps reduce emissions.
