At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh Committee on Agricultural Policy and Ecology, Deputy Azizbek Tursunbaev drew attention to the problems concerning the condition of urban trees that have been improperly pruned or damaged.

According to the deputy, many old trees in Bishkek are ceasing to perform their protective function, failing to trap dust, provide shade, or protect the city from heat and wind.

The mayor of the capital, Aibek Junushaliev, noted that special attention is being paid to the situation on Auezov Street, where many trees have been improperly pruned or have dried out due to a lack of oversight and unauthorized intervention.

“We inspected Auezov Street and recorded which trees were affected. The reasons for the improper pruning have not yet been established, but we will closely monitor the situation to prevent similar incidents from occurring,” the mayor reported.

Tursunbaev emphasized that simply planting new trees without proper monitoring of their growth and care will not solve the existing problems. “If trees are planted without a system and pruned incorrectly, they will be of no benefit,” the deputy noted.

For his part, Mayor Junushaliev assured that new plantings will now be under strict control, a watering and care system is being implemented, and residents will be able to participate in monitoring the growth of trees through a city map. “New plantings must fulfill their ecological functions, such as trapping dust, providing shade, and improving the microclimate of the city,” he added.
