As a result of recent changes, the cost of the minimum set of products has increased by 50 soms, totaling 6473 soms.
We conduct weekly monitoring of prices for the same range of products in the same supermarket. The table below presents data on which products were included in our basket and the reasons for their selection.
It should be noted that prices in supermarkets may differ from market prices. Stores often offer products on promotions with discounts.
Since the beginning of our analysis, which started in late October 2018, the price of the grocery basket has increased by 3203 soms. Compared to the same period last year, the cost has increased by 60 soms, and since the beginning of this year — by 406 soms.
Bread remains the cheapest product in our basket. Fresh vegetables and fruits have the most significant impact on its cost, as they are the reasons for price fluctuations.
Throughout 2024, the grocery basket has become cheaper by 743 soms. The minimum price was recorded on September 14 — 5510 soms, and the maximum — on April 13, when the basket cost 7018 soms.

In 2009, the government of Kyrgyzstan approved nutrition standards for citizens. According to this document, every resident of the country is required to consume 9 types of products monthly.
These standards include: 9 kg of bread products, 5 kg of meat, 8.2 kg of potatoes, 9 kg of vegetables, 10 kg of fruits and berries, 2 kg of sugar, 17 liters of milk, 1 liter of vegetable oil, 4 eggs, 100 grams of fish and fish products, and 200 grams of tea.

Taking into account the minimum standards established by the government, we calculated the cost of the grocery basket for a family of four, based on prices in one of the supermarkets in Bishkek. In recent years, many city residents prefer to shop in large stores.
It is important to note that the consumption calculations are approximate and are based solely on government standards. Not all families adhere to the same diet and consumption volumes. For example, some people do not eat meat at all, while others prefer to do without sugar. Therefore, our basket should not be regarded as an absolute truth. It is more of a social experiment from 24.kg.
Bread products include both bread and pasta and cereals. Our family is average, so among fruits, we choose apples and bananas, and among vegetables — onions, carrots, peppers, cabbage, cucumbers, and tomatoes. No excesses, just the essentials.
