Since the beginning of summer, active reconstruction has been underway at the "Manas" International Airport, which, according to preliminary estimates, will take at least another six months.

According to Altynbek Mambetov, the director of infrastructure and regional development at the OJSC "Airports of Kyrgyzstan," "passengers can now get from the turnaround to the terminal entrance in just 70-100 meters."

After exiting the security control area, passengers enter the updated first floor. The retail space has been increased, and work has been done to update the ceilings, walls, and floors. The new interior is noticeably different from the old one, although the design is still quite modest — it features a map of the country and commemorative photographs of the airport. In the future, there are plans to focus on the cultural and historical heritage related to the epic of "Manas."

The old mosaic on the walls will be preserved, but it will be harmoniously integrated into the new design after professional consultations.

On the first floor, there are three exit zones for passengers: 1) for domestic flights, 2) for flights from EAEU countries, and 3) for other destinations.

Construction is actively underway on the second floor. The overpass will be replaced with a gallery that will start from the updated parking lot with 600 spaces. The check-in area is also being expanded — it will now accommodate up to 70 counters. The number of elevators and escalators will increase, and a ramp will be provided for people with disabilities.

Altynbek Mambetov added that the appearance of the airport will meet modern standards, with new staircases, escalators, and elevators for which shafts have already been prepared.

Up to 600 people are working on the construction around the clock — 400 during the day and 200 at night. The concrete pouring and reinforcement work is already 70% complete, while the installation of engineering systems continues. It is expected that they will be completed within a month, after which decoration, the arrangement of the sterile zone, and the platform will begin.

The total cost of the reconstruction has not yet been disclosed, but, as noted by the manager, cost-saving measures are being implemented. "We have not yet finalized the results, as all reconciliation acts are not complete, but preliminary estimates show that we have managed to save," Mambetov added.

After the renovation is completed, the airport will be able to accommodate significantly more passengers, which is especially important in light of Kyrgyzstan's plans to exit the EU's blacklist in 2026.
