Recently, a meeting took place at the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) between Azim Akhmedkhadjaev, the director of the Uzbekistan Atomic Energy Agency, and Rafael Grossi, the head of the IAEA. They discussed the implementation of a "roadmap" for the development of nuclear energy and the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Jizzakh region.

The IAEA expressed its readiness to support Uzbekistan's nuclear program.

During the meeting, Rafael Grossi noted that Uzbekistan is successfully forming its national nuclear infrastructure in accordance with IAEA standards. He emphasized that the reforms carried out under the leadership of the president have created the necessary conditions for progress in this area.

The practical implementation of the project will begin with the pouring of the first concrete at the construction site in Jizzakh. The IAEA Director General also highlighted the strategic importance of this nuclear power plant, which will include both large and small reactors. The parties agreed to expand the presence of Uzbek specialists in the IAEA secretariat, which will help strengthen the country's human resources potential.
