In the Kyrgyz Republic, the issue of renaming the village of Dmitrievka, located within the rural district of Jeek in the Issyk-Ata region of Chui province, is currently being discussed.

Turmush previously reported that local deputies, responding to requests from some residents, agreed to change the name of the village to Esirkemish.

Now, the initiative must undergo inter-agency coordination in the region and will then be considered by relevant ministries and services before being presented to the deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh. The final decision will be made by the president, who will sign the corresponding decree.

A Turmush correspondent gathered information about who and on what grounds named this settlement Dmitrievka.

According to data provided by the ayil okmotu, the village began to form during the period when Tsarist Russia started to develop Kyrgyz lands. This time was marked by significant changes in the life of the Kyrgyz people, and the nomadic population began to transition to a sedentary lifestyle.

It was from this moment that the creation of Dmitrievka began. Initially, there were dugouts and shelters—dwellings resembling basement rooms covered with reeds and earth. Over time, wooden houses began to be built.

During the Tsarist regime, part of the population was exiled, while settlers from Russia arrived in the region. Some of them became the first residents of Dmitrievka.

According to the ayil okmotu, among the settlers was a man named Dmitry, who settled on the banks of the Issyk-Ata River. When the new residents were asked where they planned to live, they replied, "Near Dmitry." Thus, according to one version, the name of the village—Dmitrievka—originated.

In the second half of the 19th century, Dungans and Uyghurs from China also settled in this region, engaging in agriculture and settling closer to rivers. During the Great Patriotic War, the population increased due to evacuees from other regions of the country, as well as settlers from the North and South Caucasus.

Dmitrievka is located on the northern branch of the Great Silk Road, which connects the East and the West. The Issyk-Ata River flows through the village, and its waters are used for economic activities. The main sectors of the economy are animal husbandry and the cultivation of fodder crops.

A boarding school was established in January 1964 based on the Dmitrievka orphanage. Currently, it educates and raises 160 children with special needs from various districts of Chui province. The village also has a medical and obstetric station, a pharmacy, a club, and a library.

According to local authorities, a collective farm was organized in Dmitrievka in 1930, initiated by I.G. Ataykin, A.D. Meshkov, and I.G. Potolov. The collective farm consisted of only 29 collective farmers. It was named after the old Bolshevik and associate of V.I. Lenin, M.I. Kalinin. The chairman of the collective farm was Avtaykin Ivan Gavrilovich—a communist who heroically died at the front.

Historical documents describe the work of collective farmers as follows:

"The work of collective farmers was not easy; they mainly worked manually. The peasant harnessed a horse to a plow or harrow, tilled the land, and when the grain ripened, he mowed it with a scythe or cut it with sickles. Cows were milked by hand."

According to the ayil okmotu, the current population of Dmitrievka is 3,683 people.
