Tyson Fury explained his losses to Usyk as 'politics'

The British boxer, former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, shared his thoughts on significant fights in his career. He recalled his bouts with Deontay Wilder, Vladimir Klitschko, and Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury believes that in both fights against Usyk, he truly deserved victory, even though both matches ended in favor of the Ukrainian.

“Let’s see how my return goes. As they say, don’t count your chickens before they hatch. I approach each fight one at a time. I defeat big punchers; I’ve fought the most powerful puncher in history three times. Both opponents were undefeated. I beat Vladimir Klitschko and also twice came out on top against Usyk, but in both cases, I was outdone in the judges' decisions. It’s politics,” Fury told SkySports.

Tyson's last fight took place in December 2024 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), where he lost to Oleksandr Usyk by unanimous decision. He has a record of 34 wins (24 by knockout), 2 losses, and 1 draw.

Tyson Fury was born on August 12, 1988, in Manchester, England.

Career

Fury's professional journey began with promoter Mick Hennessy. His debut fight in the middleweight category against Bela Djeindjes ended in victory. A month later, Tyson stepped into the ring with German Marcel Zeller, who, despite his experience, did not last three rounds.

Over time, Fury moved up to the heavyweight category. In 2009, he achieved significant success, meeting John McDermott twice, who was unable to take revenge and was knocked out in the second fight.

In 2011, his opponent was Derek Chisora, who was also undefeated at that time. Before the fight, experts unanimously favored Chisora, but Fury demonstrated that he was a dangerous opponent. Chisora could not cope with Tyson's agility, and his punches, although powerful, did not lead to success. Ultimately, in the sixth round, Fury's speed and endurance made the difference.

In the following years, Derek attempted to take revenge, but Fury's experience allowed him to dominate throughout the fight, which lasted 10 rounds, after which the referee stopped the bout and awarded the victory to Tyson.

The most memorable fight for Fury is considered to be the 2015 bout against Vladimir Klitschko, who at that time had an impressive number of accolades. From the early rounds, it became clear that Klitschko had miscalculated his tactics by trying to keep Tyson at a distance, while Fury successfully utilized unexpected lateral punches. The fight ended with a confident victory for Fury.

After that, Tyson faced depression and a doping scandal and decided to pause his career, relinquishing all his titles. The only title remaining was the The Ring belt, which he lost without having a mandatory fight against Alexander Povetkin.

During his time away from the ring, Fury began to abuse alcohol and drugs, leading to his complete decline. He gained weight and felt hopeless. However, realizing that his salvation was in sports, he returned to training.

In 2018, Tyson announced his return to professional boxing, with his first opponent being Albanian Sefer Seferi. By the time of the fight, Fury's weight had reached 125 kg, while his opponent weighed 95. Sefer lasted only four rounds in the ring before refusing to come out for the fifth.

Fury then won against Francesco Pianeta and faced Deontay Wilder. In the first half of the fight, the Irishman demonstrated a clear advantage, knocking his opponent down twice, but the bout ended in a draw.

After fighting Swedish Otto Wallin, Fury suffered two cuts but managed to continue the fight and secured victory.

The next bout with Wilder was significant: Tyson was faster and more agile, forcing his opponent to surrender in the seventh round and winning the WBC heavyweight title. In October 2022, he defeated Wilder again in the 11th round, defending his WBC and The Ring titles.

On May 18, 2024, Fury fought Oleksandr Usyk in Riyadh for the title of undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. This fight ended with Usyk winning by split decision, marking Tyson's first loss in his professional career.
