Haji-Murat Khashimov has become the new leader of the "Commonwealth" of national-cultural centers in the Jail district.

After a long hiatus, the organization, which unites various national diasporas in the region, is resuming its activities.

The elections took place with the participation of representatives from the diasporas living in Kara-Balta and the Jail district.

Previously, Khashimov held the position of representative of the Uyghur diaspora "Ittipak," which he led for 16 years.

Shortly after the elections, a meeting was held with Gulzina Boobekova, the deputy akim of the Jail district state administration, during which participants discussed their proposals and ideas for improving cooperation. The new chairman noted that the organization faced difficulties in its work. Despite active participation in various events and attempts to promote their culture through dance and cuisine, the organization needs to restore its activity.

“Currently, the national-cultural centers of the 'Commonwealth' include representatives of many national minorities, including Tatars, Slavs, Koreans, Turks, Uyghurs, Ukrainians, Cossacks, Chechens, and Tajiks, who live in Kara-Balta. This organization was founded in the early 2000s at the initiative of former mayor Stanislav Tishchenko. Initially, in 1998, associations for the Korean, Tatar, and Uyghur diasporas were created in Kara-Balta. It is important to note that the number of national minorities is gradually decreasing.

According to official information, in 2010, the number of Uyghurs was approximately 1,150 people. Young people are leaving in search of better opportunities in Bishkek and Kazakhstan. Currently, Uyghurs predominantly reside in the lower part of Kara-Balta,” K. Khashimov reported.
