Between reforms and reality. What has changed in pediatric oncology after the visit of the Minister of Health?

— We discussed important tests, such as C-reactive protein and procalcitonin. Previously, these tests were conducted sporadically and often depended on sponsorship. After the visit of the Minister of Health, it became possible to establish their regular and free conduct for all children.

— Was the issue of logistics for the delivery of blood components discussed?

— We use all possible and permitted methods. If there is a pre-arranged request, blood components are delivered in our ambulance. We have a strict regulation: once a day, the vehicle goes out for components and brings them to the department. This is the safest and legally correct way.

— Why not organize separate transport for emergencies?

— For this, the National Center for Oncology and Hematology must purchase a special vehicle, hire a driver, and take full responsibility for transportation. In the event of an incident, if the driver is not an employee of the institution, all responsibility falls on the hospital. Under current conditions, this is impossible. Therefore, we chose the safest option by using the ambulance.

— What is the situation with the nutrition of parents who are with their children in the hospital?

— This issue is being worked on. It depends on funding, and the decision is made through the Ministry of Finance. As soon as the source of funding is determined, we will be able to resolve the issue of parent nutrition.

— What about the project for a dormitory for parents from the regions?

— This project is being implemented in collaboration with high-ranking officials. It was prepared and approved last year, and now we are at the stage of detailed development. The dormitory is necessary so that children can remain under medical supervision during inter-cycle periods of treatment without going back to regions where the risk of complications increases.

— Are there enough beds in the department?

— Sometimes there are short-term peaks in load, for example, after the New Year holidays when patients arrive simultaneously. But overall, all children have been admitted and received treatment as usual.

— Is the number of children with oncological diseases increasing?

— We are observing an increase in detection. If 4–5 years ago there were 120–150 cases a year, now there are over 200. This is related to the improvement of primary care, increased vigilance of doctors, and awareness of parents.

— How are supplies of vital medications, considering complaints about the State Enterprise "Kyrgyzpharmacy"?

— We held a working meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Health and "Kyrgyzpharmacy." Almost all issues were resolved within two weeks, and the necessary medications have already arrived at the department. The application for 2026 has been submitted in advance, and we expect deliveries in the second half of the year, while at the moment we have a stock of previously purchased medicines.

— So, there is no shortage of medications now?

— In general, we have most of the necessary medications. Problems arise only in cases where medications are not available from manufacturers. First-line medications are mostly provided, while the second line of treatment includes expensive technologies that are not always fully subsidized by the state.
