Some entrepreneurs are just beginning to develop this sector, while others are already demonstrating successful results. One such entrepreneur is Meerbek Kurmanbek uulu, who has been engaged in breeding several species of trout and has been working in this industry for 15 years.
Meerbek Kurmanbek uulu is the founder of the largest fish farming enterprise in the Issyk-Kul region. He utilized 1 hectare of land at the foot of the mountains in the village of Chon-Oruktu to create a modern fish farming business and recreational area. Initially, there were 15,000 fish here, but since then the farm has increased tenfold. Currently, 50–60 tons of fish are grown annually, of which 25–30 tons are sold, while the remaining part is used for expanding production.
Currently, the farm breeds golden and rainbow trout. The golden trout, imported from the USA, attracts special attention. Meerbek has raised fry in his incubation workshop, and this species of fish has become an exclusive product of the farm.
According to Meerbek Kurmanbek uulu, fish farming requires a lot of effort. Key factors for achieving high results include the conditions of maintenance, water purity and temperature, as well as the quality of feed. Failure to meet these requirements can lead to inefficiency in labor. He also emphasizes the importance of government support for fish farms.
Meerbek believes that the clean and cold water flowing from the mountains creates ideal conditions for the growth of trout, enhancing its taste qualities and market value. During the summer period, his enterprise receives between 1,500 to 2,000 tourists a day. Guests can observe the fish, catch them, and order dishes on-site. Due to high domestic demand, external sales have been temporarily suspended.
Out of the 15 years of the enterprise's operation, about 7–8 years were spent on its establishment. This period allowed for the accumulation of experience, improvement of infrastructure, and increasing production volumes to the current level. Currently, the farm employs 20 people, and during the summer season, the number of employees increases to 40–50.
