The arrest of former Prince Andrew is the result of an investigation related to the Jeffrey Epstein case.
Today, on his 66th birthday, around 8 a.m., six police cars arrived at his estate in Norfolk, as reported by the BBC.
The police confirmed the detention of "a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of abuse of power," although his name has not yet been disclosed.
According to the BBC, this arrest will open up opportunities for investigators to seize documents and conduct searches in Norfolk and Berkshire. The former prince may remain in custody for up to 96 hours or be granted bail.
As reported by the British press, the investigation against Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is linked to new information in the Jeffrey Epstein case, which covers the period of his work as a trade representative of the United Kingdom from 2001 to 2011.
There are suggestions that he may have passed confidential information and acted in Epstein's interests, but no official charges have been filed at this time.
Abuse of power in the UK is considered a serious crime, with a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
In a statement from the Thames Valley Police, it was noted:
“Today, February 19, we arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of a public office offense and are conducting searches at addresses in Norfolk and Berkshire.”
“The man is currently in police custody.”
“According to national guidelines, we cannot disclose the name of the detainee. We also urge consideration that the case is under investigation and to exercise caution in publications to avoid disrespecting the court.”
