According to information published in The New York Times, the United States intends to initiate the process of removing the president of Cuba. This decision, in Washington's view, will help achieve "significant progress in negotiations" with Havana and will serve as a catalyst for "structural economic changes" on the island. However, it is emphasized that the U.S. does not plan to change the existing political system in Cuba.

U.S. President Donald Trump previously stated: "I hope to be able to take Cuba. It’s a great honor. I can do whatever I want with it, and to be honest, the country is in a very weakened state right now."

Cuba is facing mass protests due to the economic crisis — The Wall Street Journal.

At night, residents of Cuban cities, dissatisfied with the situation, begin banging pots and pans, using regular power outages as an opportunity for anonymous expressions of protest.

In the northeastern city of Morón, protests escalated into riots: hundreds of people shouted "Freedom!" outside the local police station, after which they vandalized the office of the local Communist Party. Demonstrators threw stones at the building, tossed furniture and papers into the street, and set them on fire. At the time of the protests, the city had been without electricity for over 30 hours.

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel acknowledged that he understands citizens' dissatisfaction with deteriorating living conditions; however, he warned that "complaints and demands are acceptable if expressed in a civilized manner and with respect for public order," adding that violent actions will not go unpunished.

The economic situation in Cuba is close to catastrophe, exacerbated by an energy crisis, oil restrictions, and reduced fuel supplies.

According to the human rights organization Cubalex, the number of protests in Cuba has significantly increased: from 31 cases in January to 60 in February and 130 in the first half of March.
