Nurlan Apsamatov, a 38-year-old resident of the village of Koshkorgon in the Chui region, is engaged in breeding Kyrgyz dogs of the Taigan breed.

The Taigan, which he purchased for 12,000 soms, immediately participated in wolf hunting competitions the very next day, taking 2nd place.

“In winter, it is common to encounter jackals in the mountainous and steppe areas of the Chui region. I often go hunting with my Taigans on horseback. During the winter, predators come down to the pastures and the outskirts of villages, which requires me to hunt actively. I want to share with you a video that was filmed a few years ago. In it, my Taigans, having caught the scent of a jackal, instantly began to chase it, quickly cornering it,” Nurlan shared.

He emphasized that he had been breeding German Shepherds since childhood, but only started breeding Taigans two years ago.

“From an early age, we grew up with animals. Anyone who keeps livestock should have a dog. I bred German Shepherds because they are great for herding. However, I only got Kyrgyz Taigans two years ago. I had not shown much interest before, but after participating in ulak tartysh competitions, I became fascinated with them. Often, when I went out on horseback, my neighbor would also come out with Taigans and would often bring back caught wolves or foxes. This sparked my interest in breeding Taigans. One person, Talai Shukurov, shared many interesting facts about Taigans with me. Although I didn’t understand everything, a lot of the information turned out to be useful. I bought one Taigan for 5,000 soms, and later purchased another from Ulan Kulekee for 12,000 soms. The next day, he already participated in a salburuun in Tokmok. We registered and took part. At the competition, the wolf was on a leash. All the other Taigans did not react and lay calmly, only my new Taigan rushed at the wolf, growling and lunging. When it was my turn, I released him, and he immediately began to fight with the wolf. I thought, ‘This Taigan had talent and courage.’ In the end, we took 2nd place. Currently, I have 4 Taigans, and I plan to increase their number to 10,” Apsamatov said.

Nurlan was born on April 23, 1987, in the village of Koshkorgon. He is married and raises six children.

“I have two daughters and four sons. The daughters are already grown. The sons are also showing interest in my activities and want to participate in the Kyrgyz national game kok boru. Additionally, they are training in Kyrgyz wrestling (kyrgyz kuresh),” Nurlan added.
