In the Suusamyr Valley of the Chui Region, an interesting incident occurred related to wolf hunting. Almanbet Mukhtarbek uulu, a local resident, along with a neighbor, attempted to catch a predator that had been spotted near a barn, and as a result, they managed to kill it using sticks as weapons.

Almanbet, born in 1993, is married and raising two children—a son and a daughter. In a conversation with a Turmush correspondent, he shared details of the incident that took place during the wintering at Aygyr-Zhal in the village of Kaysar. According to him, local residents had already reported the appearance of this wolf and found traces of the animal.
“In the evening, when I drove the sheep into the barn and came out, I noticed a wolf nearby. I called my neighbor Daniyar Bekzhanov and suggested he help me catch it. We had no weapons, so we decided to pursue the wolf on horseback. We chased it for about an hour and a half, each of us covering one side and gradually tightening the circle. When the wolf tried to climb the hill, it came into my path. I hit it on the face with a stick, and it fell,” Almanbet recounted.

However, the predator soon got up and tried to escape. After another blow, Daniyar joined them, and together they finished off the wolf. According to him, the animal looked emaciated, indicating its starvation and attempts to find easy prey. Almanbet noted that if they had not stopped the wolf, it could have attacked livestock.

In the conversation, he also mentioned that wolves often approach populated areas. “In our region, predators are active every year. In Suusamyr, there are seven villages, and each winter, three to ten wolves appear. In more remote areas, there are even more. I heard that since the autumn of 2025, wolves have taken more than 20 heads of cattle and about 100 sheep. For example, my neighbor lost 14 sheep in one day. Those who have hunting permits manage to kill them. But I have not yet received a permit myself,” he added.

Almanbet also recalled an incident from his childhood when his father killed a wolf without a weapon. “He told how he chased it on horseback, and when the wolf hid at the base of a tree, he hit it with his stirrup,” he noted.
