A scientific conference dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Osmonaly Sydyk uulu was held in the Kochkor district, reports Turmush correspondent.

At this significant event, participants were welcomed by Bayaly Dosaliev, head of the Kochkor district state administration, and Samat Asanaliev, head of the presidential representative office in the Naryn region. They emphasized that the conference is held as part of the implementation of the concept of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic "National Spirit - Global Greatness" and is a tribute to the first historian of the Kyrgyz people, O. Sydyk uulu. A television was presented as a gift to the district local history museum named after O. Sydyk uulu.

The main goal of the event was to immortalize the memory of the scientific and educational activities of Osmonaly Sydyk uulu and to awaken the interest of youth in history. The conference was attended by history teachers, students, as well as leaders of various institutions and enterprises in the district.

The Kochkor Musical and Drama Theater presented a skit titled "Voice of Freedom," based on the life of the first historian. Historian and lecturer at the Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn, Akylmay Jumagulova, who studies the life and work of Osmonaly, delivered a detailed report on the topic "Osmonaly Sydykov: An Innovative Figure on the Path of Knowledge and Jadidism." In her speech, she emphasized that he was an outstanding educator and thinker, the founder of Kyrgyz history.

The conference also featured scientific works and creative projects by students from the Shapak Rysmendeev school:

Aktan Boobekov, an 11th-grade student, presented his article "Osmonaly Sydyk uulu - the First Educator and Historian of the Kyrgyz."

8th-grade student Adel Toktobekova presented research on the topic "Customs and Rituals of the Kyrgyz Associated with the Birth and Growth of an Infant."

Aiperi Usenova (10th grade) and Ainazyk Asanbekova (7th grade) presented their work "Urkun in the Memory of the People" and a short film dedicated to this theme.

Osmonaly Sydyk uulu, the first historian of the Kyrgyz people, was born in 1875 in the village of Temirbolot in the Abayildin volost of the Pishpek district (now it is the Kyzyl-Döbö ayil district of the Chokor region). His father's name was Kydyk, but for unknown reasons, he was recorded under the name Osmonaly Sydyk uulu. This may have happened because, when his book was published in Ufa, where the name Kydyk was unfamiliar to the Tatars, he might have been recorded as Sydyk. Kydyk had seven sons and one daughter. After the death of their mother, when Osmonaly was only seven years old, the brothers and sisters were left orphaned and raised by their grandfather.

When Osmonaly lived with his grandfather, his white falcon was stolen by the volost Aabayldy Kanat Ibyke uulu. The manaps of the Sayak tribe from Jumgala, Choybek and Myrzabek, were interested in this falcon and asked for its return. The falcon was stolen from the house of Kubat, Kanat's wife, and the 12-year-old Osmonaly was tasked with returning the bird. He went to the manaps of Jumgala and, after ten days, managed to return the falcon through cunning. Kubat's grandmother, expressing her gratitude, asked what he wanted as a reward. Osmonaly replied that he dreamed of education and asked, "Please provide me with everything necessary for studying." Kubat's grandmother clothed him and sent him to study with the local mullah. However, the knowledge he received did not satisfy young Osmonaly.

At the age of 13, he decided to run away, stealing one of Kanat's horses, and left for Tokmok, where he found shelter with a man named Osmon. There, with the support of Zholoy, he began to study under the famous Molda Shakir Khalifa (Zakyr kary).

Molda Shakir taught in the Tatar language and, in addition to religious subjects, taught geography and history. Osmonaly spent five years there. Seeing his thirst for knowledge, Molda Shakir recommended that he continue his education. Upon returning to his native village, Osmonaly raised funds for studying at a larger educational institution by teaching children. In 1899, at the age of 24, with a small amount of savings, he continued his studies in Uch-Turpan. Later, he spent a year in Bukhara and then returned to Kemin to continue his education at the Shabdan madrasa with mullah Yamiliha-kary from Ufa.

In 1911, together with Shabdan, he went to Ufa to continue his studies at the center of religious education of that time. He studied for a year at the "Madrasa Galiya," and in 1913 published his book "Mukhtasar tarykh Kyrgyzia" (A Brief History of the Kyrgyz) at the Ufa printing house, selling his horse and all his livestock for this. In 1914, his second book "Tarykh kyrgyz Shabdan" was published. From 1920 to 1928, he worked as a teacher in Tatar schools in Pishpek. In 1930, he was arrested as a "enemy of the people" for his political views, and a year later, in 1931, he was sentenced to death.

Before the execution of the sentence, Osmonaly was transferred to the Tashkent prison. During transportation, he fought with a guard who tried to stab him with a knife. Both were injured, and the soldier died, while Osmonaly, with severed fingers, survived thanks to the help of local residents. He continued on his way, found shelter with Zhanibek kazy, and through him managed to escape to China. In 1942, Osmonaly died of malaria in a Kyrgyz village in Tekes, located in the Eastern Tian Shan (now it is the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China).

It is worth noting that on August 7, 2014, a solemn event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the publication of historical books by Osmonaly Sydykov was held at the House of Culture in the village of Kochkor.

This event was actively attended by historians, scholars, poets, writers, and representatives of the public of Kyrgyzstan. The historian's daughter, Bүbüş Osmonalieva, thanked the organizers. In recent years, the historical museum of the Kochkor district has been named after Osmonaly Sydyk uulu, and there are plans to name a school in the village of Kyzyl-Döbö in his honor.
