According to a study published in the journal Nature Ecology & Evolution, an international group of scientists, including experts from the National University of San Juan, the Argentine Museum of Natural Sciences, and the University of Birmingham, described a new species of dinosaur named Anteavis crurilongus. This dinosaur was a small predator, comparable in size to a large dog, weighing about 30 kilograms and having long hind legs.

The remains of Anteavis crurilongus were found in the Ishigualasto geological formation, which is one of the few places on the planet where the bones of early dinosaurs have been preserved. The age of the discovered specimen was determined to be at least 12 years, indicating that it was already an adult individual.

A new species of megaraptor—a predatory dinosaur with powerful claws—was also previously discovered in Argentina, which was found holding the bones of an ancient crocodile in its mouth.
