In the area from Asan to Fort Shevchenko beach, 39 dead seals were found, and between the beach of Fort Shevchenko city and Cape Bautino – 73 carcasses.
On November 3, specialists from the laboratory and analytical control department of the ecology department of the Mangistau region began an investigation based on a report from a local resident about the discovery of seal carcasses on the Bautino coast. During the inspection, samples of seawater were collected in the coastal areas of Fort Shevchenko and Bautino.
According to information previously published by the "Lada" publication, one of the residents of Aktau reported to the editorial office that she found six dead seals in the area of the Bautino settlement, some of which were entangled in fishing nets.
Seal deaths in the Caspian Sea occur almost annually. Scientists have proposed various hypotheses regarding the causes of their deaths, but it often proves impossible to determine the exact cause. At the same time, the population of the Caspian seal continues to decline rapidly.
