According to reports, the 40-year-old mayor was delivering a speech in honor of the candle festival, which is one of the most significant events in Uruapan, when at least five shots were fired. He was taken to the hospital with injuries, where, unfortunately, he passed away.
During the investigation, law enforcement detained two suspects, while a third attacker was killed.
It should be noted that Carlos Manso was actively fighting against the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, which is considered one of the most rapidly growing criminal organizations in the country. In August of this year, security forces detained the alleged leader of the local branch of this cartel, after which the mayor appealed to state and federal authorities for additional support.
