The search continues: two robbers are being pursued
According to local news agencies, French law enforcement has arrested two suspects in the theft of royal jewels from the Louvre.
The first was caught at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, where he was about to fly to Algeria. The second was detained in one of the suburbs of the capital shortly after.
Both detainees are in custody as the judicial police conduct an investigation into the organized crime group responsible for the theft.
As part of the investigation, the police are searching for four individuals in total. Last Sunday, a group of four criminals managed to enter the Louvre during the day by using a freight elevator to access the balcony leading to the Apollo Gallery. There, they stole tiaras, earrings, necklaces, and brooches belonging to French kings and empresses. Among the stolen items is the damaged crown of Empress Eugénie de Montijo, which was later found and returned to the museum. The total damage from the theft is estimated at 88 million euros.
It is worth noting that five museums in France were robbed within a week, according to local media.
