The bill will now be sent to the House of Representatives. After its approval, the document must receive the signature of U.S. President Donald Trump, which may take several days.

According to a report from Politico, this bill will serve as the foundation for a new budget plan that will provide funding for several key agencies for the entire fiscal year. In particular, funds will be allocated to the Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as for military construction projects and the work of Congress. Other government agencies will receive temporary funding until January 30.

The shutdown that began on October 1 has become the longest in American history and has now lasted for 40 days. The reason for the suspension of government operations was disagreements between Democrats and Republicans regarding subsidies for the Obamacare program and Medicaid funding. The previous record lasted 35 days and occurred during Trump's first term as president, ending in January 2019.
