The meeting of the Steering Committee took place on November 13, 2025, at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome, Italy. Under the leadership of Naranthungalag Tserendorj, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Mongolia to the FAO, participants discussed the importance of maintaining healthy grazing ecosystems to ensure the livelihoods of pastoralists, as well as to support inclusive economic growth and enhance environmental sustainability in the context of sustainable development.
At this meeting, the Eastern Republic of Uruguay was elected as co-chair of the Steering Committee. Delegates reviewed and approved key elements of the International Year, including the strategic program, priority themes, funding conditions, launch plans, and information support activities, as well as developed the official campaign logo.
More than 40 participants, including delegates from FAO member states, representatives of international and regional organizations, as well as senior officials from the FAO Secretariat, attended the meeting both in person and via virtual platforms.
