In Kyrgyzstan, a meeting of the working group preparing the State Program for the Development of High-Mountain, Remote, and Border Territories, planned until 2030, took place. The meeting, chaired by Choro Seyitov, the First Deputy Minister of Economy and Commerce, brought together representatives from various government agencies.

This event was made possible thanks to the support of the Development Policy Institute within the framework of the initiative "For the Development of Local Self-Government," funded by the Swiss Embassy.

According to the Ministry of Economy, the new program is being developed in the context of implementing the State Program for Comprehensive Socio-Economic Development of Regions for 2025-2030, which defines the main directions for spatial and territorial development of the country.
The strategic significance of developing high-mountain and hard-to-reach regions lies in ensuring security, sustainable economic growth, and improving the quality of life for the local population.
These territories face numerous challenges, including harsh climatic conditions, low transport and digital connectivity, a lack of investment, and a declining working-age population.

The main goal of the new program is to create conditions for sustainable socio-economic development of vulnerable territories, as well as to reduce territorial inequality.

The implementation of this program is expected to contribute to strengthening the economic stability of the regions, reducing migration by creating new jobs, improving access to basic services, and enhancing the living standards of the population, as well as forming new centers of economic growth based on local resources.
