The administration of Donald Trump in the USA is developing an initiative that will require all foreign tourists to provide information about their social media accounts from the past five years in order to enter the country. This was reported by Kazinform, citing NBC News.
According to a notice from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, this requirement will apply to all arrivals, including citizens of the United Kingdom and Germany, for whom a visa is not required.
In addition to social media history, the agency plans to expand the data collection form by adding fields for email addresses and phone numbers used in the past five years, as well as names and addresses of family members, as stated in the notice.
Furthermore, in June of this year, the State Department announced the need to make social media profiles public for those applying for certain types of visas to enter the USA.
The civil rights organization Electronic Frontier Foundation criticized this initiative, calling it unprecedented and stating that such measures are aimed at surveillance and suppressing the activities of foreign students on social media.
