The Danger of One Type of Power Bank Revealed
The Chinese authorities are concerned about user safety and have reported a potential threat associated with power banks that do not have screens. According to ITHome, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the country has developed a draft ban on the sale of such devices.
Experts believe that having a screen and a special application will help users monitor the technical parameters of batteries and identify possible malfunctions.
Officials note that in the past 12 months, there has been a significant increase in the number of incidents involving external battery fires on board aircraft. As a result, restrictions on the transportation of batteries that do not have China Compulsory Certification have already been introduced in the past.
According to the new requirements, about 70% of power bank manufacturers may face closure of their businesses, as small and medium-sized companies will not be able to adapt to the new strict standards. The ban is planned to be implemented by June 2026.
In particular, in October, there was an incident involving a power bank fire on board an Air China flight from Hangzhou to Seoul. The fire was quickly extinguished by the flight attendants, and no passengers were harmed.
