According to the National Agency, as of December 20, snow has covered at least 79% of the country's territory, with a thickness of up to 20 cm. This creates a threat of extreme winter conditions known as dzud.

Dzud is a specific Mongolian term that refers to a harsh winter when a significant number of livestock may die from hypothermia or being buried under snow.

The country is known for its harsh continental climate, characterized by prolonged frosty winters and short summer periods.
