On Sunday, the National Statistical Office of Mongolia announced the start of a nationwide livestock census, which will take place in 2025.
Data collection will be conducted from December 7 to 17 and will allow for an assessment of the effectiveness of the livestock sector, as well as assist in the formation of macroeconomic forecasts, noted the press release from the National Statistical Office.
The livestock sector plays a key role in the economy of Mongolia, providing for nearly 40% of the country's nomadic population.
Every year, due to harsh winter conditions, many nomadic herders lose part of their livestock, which negatively impacts their financial situation.
According to the National Statistical Office, by the end of 2024, the total livestock population in Mongolia reaches 57.6 million head.
