The Saturday message from the National Agency for Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring of Mongolia indicates the possibility of extreme winter conditions known as "dzud" in the western aimags of the country, including Bayan-Ölgii, Uvs, and Khovd.

According to meteorologists, a recent risk assessment showed that nearly 20% of Mongolia's territory is at high risk of dzud, while over 30% is at medium risk.

Currently, more than 70% of the country is covered with snow up to 30 cm thick, significantly increasing the likelihood of extreme winter conditions known as dzud this season.

The term "dzud" is used in Mongolia to refer to harsh winter conditions when a significant number of livestock die due to severe cold and snow cover.

Mongolia is known for its harsh continental climate, which includes long cold winters and short summers.
