Currently, 18% of all work has been completed on the construction of the "Erdeneburen" hydropower plant. More than 230 specialists from both Mongolia and abroad are involved at the project site.

As reported by Biyambatsogt Sandag, a member of the Mongolian government and minister, the construction process plans to temporarily employ between 800 and 1000 people. After the project is completed, 60-80 people will find permanent employment.

The "Erdeneburen" hydropower plant, being constructed on the Khovd River in the Erdeneburen somon, is designed to ensure the reliable operation of the energy system in the western region of Mongolia and to meet the growing electricity demands using domestic resources.

In 2015, the Budget Law allocated the necessary funds for updating the technical and economic justification for this construction.

The western region of the country currently relies significantly on electricity imports from Russia, which is 6-8 times more expensive than local production. This situation directly affects the insufficient growth of production and the service sector in the aimags.

The annual energy consumption in the western region is 160 million kWh, of which 40% is provided by the Dorgoong Hydropower Plant. The remaining energy comes from Russia.

The planned capacity of the "Erdeneburen" hydropower plant will be 90 MW, which will allow for the generation of 360 million kWh per year. After the station is put into operation, it will create the opportunity to fully supply the western region with energy and support the energy system of the central part of the country.
