In the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, the construction of buildings up to 40 stories high is planned. This was announced by Nurdin Oruntaev, the Minister of Construction, Architecture, and Housing and Communal Services, at a press conference for journalists.

According to the minister, the country is experiencing a real construction boom.

“We assess the volume of construction by the number of cranes operating in the city. Recently, I showed a colleague from Uzbekistan how many cranes are installed in the capital, and he was surprised. The population of the republic is increasing, and we are obliged to provide housing for it. According to world standards, the minimum living space per person is 15 square meters. Considering the annual population growth of 100-150 thousand people, we need to build at least 1.5 million square meters of housing per year,” he noted.

In 2024, about 2 million square meters of housing were built, and in 2025, this volume is planned to increase to 2.5 million. The main thing is to maintain this pace over the next 10-15 years. Bishkek must grow upwards. Currently, permits have been issued for the construction of 27- and 38-story buildings, and we are already working on projects that will allow the construction of houses 40 stories high and more. Modern technologies, new types of concrete and metal structures make this possible,” Oruntaev added.

The minister also noted that representatives of the Chinese side emphasize the strictness of construction requirements in Kyrgyzstan.

“To save resources, time, and money, we decided to recognize Chinese standards in construction. Why reinvent the wheel when we can use existing best practices,” he emphasized.

In addition, the minister highlighted the importance of building affordable housing.

“Today, many citizens receive housing at a rate of 4-5 percent through the State Mortgage Company. In Uzbekistan, for example, the state mortgage rate is 8 percent. We do not have such preferential conditions anywhere,” the minister noted. He added that the rise in housing prices also indicates the development of the country's economy. “In Japan, for example, you can't buy a square meter for less than 5 thousand dollars,” concluded Nurdin Oruntaev.
