The Government of Mongolia, through the Main Veterinary Administration, has signed an agreement with Uzbekistan aimed at developing agricultural cooperation, including veterinary services and expanding trade opportunities.

Starting from September 1, 2025, the Veterinary Department of Töv Aimag will conduct inspections, examinations, quarantine measures, and selective checks, as well as carry out disinfection and sterilization work during the export of sheep for breeding purposes.

A total of 57,932 "Bayad" breed sheep have been exported from four licensed enterprises. Due to losses during transportation, 56 carcasses were destroyed.

The sheep were sent to the Navoi and Bukhara regions of Uzbekistan for breeding. According to plans, by the end of the year, the import of 100,000 sheep is expected: by the end of October, 50,000 heads were delivered in 60 flights of the Mongolian airline MIAT, and the remaining 50,000 are expected in November and December.

After the visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Mongolia in June, the Chairman of the State Veterinary Committee, Bakhram Norkobilov, also visited Mongolia. During the negotiations, the parties reached an agreement to reduce the export duty on sheep and goats from $18 to $7.

According to preliminary data from the latest livestock census, as of the end of 2024, Mongolia has 57.6 million heads of livestock, which is 7 million heads less than the previous year, representing a decrease of 10.9%.

The census results also showed a reduction in the number of all types of livestock, except for camels. There are 4.7 million horses, 5.1 million cows, 24.5 million sheep, and 22.9 million goats, while the number of camels increased by 1.4% to 480,600 heads.

Another important aspect of cooperation between the countries is the implementation of programs aimed at improving qualifications, scientific research, and academic mobility for Mongolian specialists in Uzbekistan. In particular, 50 students from Uzbekistan plan to study in Mongolia, while 10 Mongolian teachers will undergo internships in Samarkand.
