According to RIA Novosti, Iranian police have arrested 297 participants in the unrest in the country, as reported by the state television and radio company IRIB.

“The chief police officer for public safety confirmed the detention of 297 individuals who participated in the riots related to American and Israeli organizations,” the official statement noted.

Protests in Iran began in late December 2025 in response to the decline in the value of the local currency—the Iranian rial. Starting January 8, following calls from Reza Pahlavi, the son of the overthrown Shah in 1979, the protests became more widespread, coinciding with the internet shutdown in the country. In some cities, the protests escalated into clashes with law enforcement and were accompanied by anti-crisis slogans.

Reports indicate that among those involved in the unrest were both victims and security forces. Iranian authorities accused the U.S. and Israel of orchestrating these protests and stated that by January 12, they had managed to stabilize the situation.
