An Uzbek citizen has admitted his guilt in organizing a terrorist attack that resulted in the death of a high-ranking Russian officer. Additionally, the court imposed a fine of 1 million rubles (approximately 13 thousand dollars) on him.
As part of this case, three other individuals were also in the dock. They received serious prison sentences, but with lower fines. For instance, Robert Safaryan, a native of Azerbaijan who, according to the investigation, handed over explosives to Kurbanov, was sentenced to 25 years in prison. The Ingushes Batuhan Tochiev and Ramazan Padiyev, who provided Kurbanov with housing, received sentences of 22 and 18 years in a penal colony, respectively.
According to the press, during the trial, Kurbanov actively cooperated with the investigation and admitted his guilt, while the other defendants insisted on their innocence. Tochiev and Padiyev claimed they were simply renting out an apartment, while Safaryan asserted that he was unaware of the contents of the package he handed over.
It is worth noting that in late December 2024, Kurbanov was charged under several articles of the Criminal Code of Russia, including paragraph "b" of part 3 of article 205, concerning the commission of a terrorist act, as well as part 4 of article 222.1 and part 3 of article 223.1, related to the illegal circulation and manufacture of explosive devices.
Igor Kirillov and his assistant, Major Ilya Polikarpov, were killed on December 17, 2024, as a result of an explosion from a scooter left at the entrance. On the same day, a suspect was detained in Balashikha, identified as 29-year-old Uzbek Akhmadjon Alijon ugli Kurbanov.
During interrogation, he stated that he had been recruited by Ukrainian special services, who promised to pay him 100 thousand dollars for carrying out the terrorist act and to facilitate his relocation to Europe for permanent residence.
