
In 2024, 1824 kg of drugs were seized at this border, which means an increase of almost a ton, or 50.3%. Of the total amount confiscated in 2025, 2566 kg were found at the border with the Khatlon region, while 186 kg were found in the area with the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
Moreover, Zafar Samad noted a sharp increase in armed clashes with Afghan drug traffickers. In 2025, there were 17 such incidents, while in 2024 there were only 6.
“There were 17 armed conflicts at the state border of Tajikistan with Afghanistan involving drug traffickers, resulting in the neutralization of 10 Afghan citizens,” he reported. In comparison, in 2024, only three traffickers were “neutralized.”
Samad also reported that during the clashes last year, two employees of the State Committee for National Security (SCNS) of Tajikistan were killed.
The head of the Anti-Narcotics Agency emphasized that there is no interaction with Afghan authorities. “There is no interagency cooperation with the authorized bodies of Afghanistan, no negotiations have been conducted,” he added, noting that drug smuggling from Afghanistan through the territory of Tajikistan continues.
In total, in 2025, the law enforcement agencies of Tajikistan seized 5280 kg of drugs, which is 899 kg or 21% more compared to 2024. Among them, 253.4 kg of psychotropic substances were seized, which is 142 kg more than last year, including 247 kg of methamphetamine, accounting for 97% of the total volume of psychotropic substances.
In 2024, 44 criminal groups involved in drug trafficking were disrupted. The Anti-Narcotics Agency conducted investigations into 132 criminal cases concerning 180 individuals and forwarded them to court.
Last year, 22 foreigners attempting to smuggle drugs into Tajikistan were detained, with 275 kg of narcotic substances seized from them. In particular, 99 kg were confiscated from 9 Afghan citizens, 131 kg from 8 Uzbeks, 44 kg from 4 Kazakhstani citizens, and 4 grams from one Moldovan citizen. Information about the punishment of these individuals was not provided.
Additionally, in 2025, 583 citizens of Tajikistan were detained for drug offenses abroad, with 208 kg of drugs seized from them.
Despite the difficult situation, Zafar Samad assured that it is under the control of law enforcement agencies. At the end of the press conference, employees of the Anti-Narcotics Agency burned about 316 kg of seized drugs in the presence of journalists.
At the same time, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of Tajikistan announced its intention to reward citizens with valuable gifts and monetary rewards for information about individuals involved in drug crimes and other serious offenses. Full confidentiality for informants is guaranteed.
