According to information published by The Insider, researchers have identified the presence of epibatidine in the biological materials of Alexei Navalny, which were taken abroad after his death. This toxin, derived from a South American frog, has become the subject of analysis by experts from several laboratories.

It is reported that specialists from the Netherlands, Germany, France, Sweden, and the United Kingdom are planning to make a joint statement at the Munich Security Conference.

Alexander Polupan, the resuscitator who previously treated Navalny, noted that the symptoms observed in the politician correspond to the effects of epibatidine.

As mentioned by The Insider, a paper regarding the synthesis of this substance was published in 2013 in the "Chemical-Pharmaceutical Journal." The authors of the article were employees of the State Scientific Research Institute of Organic Chemistry and Technology, where "Novichok" was previously developed. Epibatidine was described as a potent non-narcotic analgesic; however, its toxic properties make its use unsafe.

Yulia Navalnaya reported that after her husband's death in February 2024 in the colony in the village of Kharp, his team managed to obtain biological materials and send them for independent analysis abroad.

On February 14, Yulia Navalnaya confirmed that the studies proved the fact of poisoning, stating that "now there is evidence for this." She also noted that she holds the Russian authorities responsible for her husband's death.

Maria Pevchikh, head of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, stated that the substance could not have entered the colony accidentally and was used intentionally.

In a joint statement from countries such as the United Kingdom, Sweden, France, Germany, and the Netherlands, it is noted that Navalny died in custody, and Russia "had the means, motives, and opportunity" to use the toxin. It is also reported that the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons has been notified of a possible violation of the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Previously, Russian authorities rejected accusations of involvement in the politician's death.
