Mirziyoyev approved tightening responsibility for cybercrime and organized crime

// Press service of the President of Uzbekistan
According to the press service of the President of Uzbekistan, alarming statistical data was presented at the meeting: over the past six years, the number of reports of cybercrime has increased by 48 times. In 2022, 82% of fraud cases and 76% of thefts were related to cyberspace, with the total damage caused to individuals and legal entities exceeding 2 trillion sums.

Among the proposed measures is the introduction of criminal and administrative responsibility for citizens whose electronic payment means, SIM cards, crypto wallets, and accounts were used in cybercrimes. For legal entities, it is planned to establish administrative responsibility for non-compliance with cybersecurity standards, regardless of the consequences. Additionally, banks and payment organizations may be required to compensate clients who suffered losses due to vulnerabilities in their systems — previously, in three banks, 3,025 clients incurred damages amounting to 17 billion sums due to such issues.

Regarding organized crime, it is proposed to introduce criminal liability for the creation and financing of criminal groups, to tighten penalties for hooliganism, and to criminalize the illegal conduct of competitions in combat sports involving youth.
