“I welcome President Donald Trump's decision, which is an important step towards normalizing and improving relations between our countries,” Rodriguez wrote on the social network X, adding that she hopes for the lifting of sanctions against Venezuela itself as well.

Earlier, during Donald Trump's first presidential term, Delcy Rodriguez and her brother Jorge were sanctioned due to their involvement in "undermining democracy" in Venezuela.

On January 3, American military forces evacuated President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores from Venezuela. After their departure, Delcy Rodriguez, who at that time held the position of Vice President, took over the country. Initially, she condemned the "armed aggression of the USA" and stated that Maduro remains the only legitimate president, but later she reached out to Trump with a proposal for cooperation.
