As reported by Politico, sources in the U.S. administration stated that Washington expects actions from Delcy Rodriguez, the interim president of Venezuela, that her predecessor, Nicolas Maduro, did not take. In particular, Rodriguez is required to increase efforts to combat drug trafficking, eliminate "hostile agents" from Iran and Cuba, and cease oil supplies to U.S. rival countries.

Additionally, sources told the publication that Washington insists on holding elections in Venezuela and Rodriguez's subsequent departure from office. However, the exact timeline for meeting these demands has not been disclosed.

Previously, Trump claimed that elections in Venezuela would not take place within the next 30 days, as it was necessary to first "restore order in the country."

According to Politico's sources, the U.S. has not only military pressure methods but also other tools, such as the possibility of easing sanctions and providing access to Rodriguez's financial assets, which are reportedly mainly located in Qatar.

Delcy Rodriguez assumed the role of acting president of Venezuela following a U.S. operation that resulted in the capture of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, on the night of January 3.

Initially, Rodriguez sharply condemned the actions of the U.S. and demanded Maduro's release. However, she later reached out to Trump, calling for cooperation, stating that Venezuelans "deserve peace, not war."

This appeal followed Trump's warning that if Venezuela refused to cooperate, it could face new strikes, and that Rodriguez "would have to pay a high price, possibly even greater than Maduro."
