The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguez, has called on the United States for cooperation between the two countries.

In her statement, she confirmed that Venezuela is striving for peace and peaceful coexistence, and also prioritized the development of "balanced and respectful international relations" with the United States and neighboring countries, based on the principles of sovereign equality and non-interference.

Donald Trump, for his part, indicated in a conversation with reporters aboard his plane that Rodriguez must provide the U.S. with "full access" to Venezuela's resources. Additionally, on January 4, in an interview with The Atlantic, he noted that Delcy Rodriguez "will pay a very high price" if she refuses to cooperate with the U.S. "If she doesn't do the right thing, she will have to pay a high price, possibly even higher than Maduro," Trump added.

It is worth noting that on January 3, the Supreme Court of Venezuela appointed Delcy Rodriguez as the interim head of state after American special forces kidnapped President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores in Caracas and took them to New York. The U.S. intends to bring Maduro to trial on charges of "narcoterrorism." Trump also stated that the management of Venezuela during the transitional period would be carried out by his administration until a "safe, adequate, and reasonable transfer of power." At the same time, he claimed that Delcy Rodriguez expressed her willingness to cooperate with the U.S. However, shortly after this, she appeared on state television, condemning the "military aggression of the U.S." and stating that the only legitimate president of Venezuela is Nicolas Maduro. Meanwhile, the leader of the Venezuelan opposition, Edmundo Gonzalez, declared himself president of the country and called on the army to support his new position.
