According to Axios, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff held a secret meeting with Reza Pahlavi, the leader of the Iranian opposition. Later, correspondent Barak Ravid noted that Secretary of State Marco Rubio mentioned in closed meetings that the administration is considering providing support to Iranian protesters without resorting to forceful methods.
The U.S. State Department previously recommended that citizens of the country and allies leave Iran. When asked what kind of assistance would be provided to the protesters, the U.S. President replied, "I'm sorry, but you have to figure that out for yourselves."
During his speech in Detroit, the head of state called for "making Iran great again," stating: "This country was great until these monsters came and took it over."
As reported by the Wall Street Journal, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar are warning the U.S. that attempts to overthrow the Iranian regime could cause serious disruptions in the oil markets and negatively impact the American economy. These countries express concern that military actions against Iran could affect the flow of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz.
