Amid ongoing mass protests, restrictions on internet access, and disruptions in public transportation, the U.S. State Department strongly advises its citizens to leave Iran. This is stated in an official message on the website of the United States Embassy in Tehran.

Americans are advised to think ahead about alternative means of communication and, if possible, to exit through land borders with Armenia, Turkey, or Turkmenistan.

“If you cannot leave, find a safe place in your home or another secure building. Make sure you have a supply of food, water, medications, and other necessary items,” the State Department urges.

U.S. citizens with dual nationality are recommended to use their Iranian passport for departure, as the authorities in Tehran do not recognize their American citizenship.

The message also emphasizes that the U.S. government has no diplomatic or consular relations with Iran, and American interests in Tehran are represented by Switzerland.

It has been reported that the auxiliary diplomatic staff of the French Embassy in Tehran has also left the country due to the protests.

Anti-government actions in Iran have been ongoing for more than two weeks.

According to the human rights organization IHRNGO, at least 648 protesters have died, but the exact number of casualties is difficult to determine due to internet outages.

Recent reports indicate that protests have been registered in 585 locations across the country in 186 cities (31 provinces), and the number of detainees has exceeded 10,000.

It should be noted that there has been no internet access in Iran for more than three days. Mass protests, triggered by the economic crisis and the devaluation of the national currency, have been ongoing since late December 2025.
