Work has begun on the modernization of the Kydyralysky irrigation canal in the Manas District, which was built back in 1977. This was reported by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic.
The main goal of the project is to significantly reduce irrigation water losses and improve the functioning of the irrigation system. These works are part of a nationwide program that covers 40 districts, with each receiving 10,000 square meters of new concrete pavement.
The Kydyralysky canal has a total length of 18 kilometers. In the first phase of reconstruction, new pavement will be laid on the most problematic section, which is 1 kilometer long, where the greatest water losses occur during the summer.
According to information from the local administration, this canal irrigates 7,740 hectares of agricultural land. After the concrete pavement is laid, it is expected that an additional supply of up to 2 cubic meters of water will be possible for the needy farms. Investments in the project amount to about 200 million soms.
Experts note that a new technology based on geomembrane, geotextile, and cement is being used for the pavement, which will ensure a service life of 60–70 years. Given the condition of the structure and the level of water losses, the Kydyralysky canal has been recognized as a priority facility for modernization.
The main goal of the project is to improve the irrigation infrastructure, reduce water losses, and increase crop yields in the area.
