Disney has released the first trailer for the new live-action remake of "Moana," starring Kathryn Lagaya and Dwayne Johnson. This was reported by Variety.

Dwayne Johnson will reprise his role as Maui, just as he did in the original animated version from 2016. His co-star will be 17-year-old actress Kathryn Lagaya, who is making her film debut.

“I am thrilled to play Moana, as she is one of my favorite characters. My grandfather is from Faala (Palauli, Savaii Island), and my grandmother is from Leulumoega Tua'i on the main island of Upolu in Samoa. I am proud to represent Samoan culture and all the peoples of the Pacific Islands, as well as girls who look like me,” the actress shared.

The original animated film "Moana" was created with the participation of directors John Musker and Ron Clements, as well as screenwriter Jared Bush and composers Mark Mancina, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Opetaia Foai.

It is worth noting that most of them will be involved in the new project.

The premiere of Moana's new adventures will take place in theaters on July 10, 2026.
