The film "Beshkempir," directed by Aktan Arym Kubat, has secured a place in the list of the 100 best Asian films compiled over the last three decades. This was reported by producer Altynai Koichumanova.
The film "Beshkempir," released in 1998, was added to the updated list prepared by the Busan International Film Festival, which has been in existence since 1996.
To form this ranking, the organizers conducted a large-scale survey involving 161 experts from 34 countries, including producers, directors, film critics, and film researchers.
This list reflects key works that have significantly influenced the development of Asian cinema and defined cultural benchmarks over the past 30 years.
The film "Beshkempir" has received wide international recognition and has become one of the key works in post-Soviet cinema. It is distinguished by its unique poetics and sincerity in depicting childhood and the traditions of Kyrgyz society. The film has been showcased at major international film festivals and has received numerous prestigious awards.
It is worth noting that this is not the first recognition for Aktan Arym Kubat from the Busan Film Festival. In 2015, the festival published a book titled "100 Best Directors and 100 Best Films of Asia," conducting a survey among 73 renowned film critics and festival directors. At that time, "Beshkempir" was also included among the greatest Asian films, and Aktan Arym Kubat was recognized as one of the leading directors on the continent.
