On December 10, a meeting of the Coordination Committee for the Naryn Urban Resilience Program (NURP) took place in Naryn.

Representatives from the local administration, development partners, and other stakeholders participated in this event to discuss the current status of the program and outline plans for its further implementation.

Among those present were: Nurbek Satarov, the presidential representative in the Naryn region; Barkat Fazal, a representative of the Aga Khan Development Organization (AKDN); and Siroko Messerli, the Swiss Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan.

The discussions covered a range of important topics, including risk reduction measures and the minimization of structural threats, as well as infrastructure project initiatives that will be implemented through small grants. Data on the timelines for the completion of the second and third major infrastructure projects were also presented.

As an alternative solution instead of the third large-scale infrastructure project, it was proposed to create four additional flood protection barriers in other areas of the city that are at risk.

The Naryn Urban Resilience Program (NURP) is a five-year project designed to transform Naryn. The focus is on sustainable economic growth, climate change adaptation, sustainable urban development, and the creation of inclusive public spaces. The initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the Cabinet of Ministers, the Aga Khan Organization, and the local population.
